________

Logo and brand guideline design work for the Shxw’ōwhámél Sto:lo First Nation in British Columbia located on the Fraser River.

CHALLENGE
The key to the rebrand was to maintain their history tied to the river, fish, and traditional ancestral motifs, yet transition the current brand to be trusting, valued, vibrant, optimistic, and empowering. Their current logo was extremely outdated with ties to their colonial past.

SOLUTION
The result is an innovative, clean, modern design that is bold, intelligent, proud, welcoming, and optimistic. A brand identity that will transition the First Nation and other indigenous people from a complex negative past to one that is stronger and more confident. The logo features the traditional ovoid shape that is a common form used in indigenous art and culture and used as a graphical element of a fish moving or swimming through water as a metaphor for moving forward.
